To discuss issues in #DeafEd, there is a national twitter chat that meets the first Thursday of each month at 4:30pm PST/7:30pm EST. Each month a guest host leads a discussion about a variety of pertinent Deaf Ed topics. So far the following topics have been covered: self-advocacy, professional development, English literacy, and the intersection of education and language of deaf students of color.
If you are interested to know how and why this chat was started, please read Heidi Givens’ blog post http://

This Thursday, November 5 at 7:30pm EST, the next #DeafEd Twitter chat will be hosted by NTID students with the topic of Deaf Identity, a Youth’s Perspective. This should be an interesting chat as their topical questions explores intersectionality including gender, race, deaf plus, and more.
Next month’s chat will focus on ASL literacy with me as the guest host on Thursday, Dec. 3. Future winter/spring chat schedule are being set up with possible topics such as allyship, Deaf leadership, Deaf schools, education technology, and how the language rights of Deaf children fall under the 1st amendment.
Please consider joining us. You are welcome to follow Heidi Givens, the moderator, on Twitter at @heidigasl or myself @laurenmaucere to get up to date information about the chats.
